This is a GREAT size for our trucks, unfortunately, the selection is limited. Here are your choices (all of them - seriously):

BFG A/T
BFG M/T
BFG Baja
Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT
Various Interco - Bogger, SSR, ...

If you go with 255/85-16 you also have
Trxus M/T
Maxxis Bighorn

Hey Thanks TC!!

Out of curiosity, what do you think about running the 34X9 - 16 Interco TSL's?
This is on a 84 22R 4Runner

I'm betting troy thinks you'd better run that tire on a narrow rim.

I remember a few of us pulling his 34x9.50 out of his spring after it left the rim on his 4runner. It wasn't very fun.

I never had one leave the rim ... DID suffer A LOT of rim damage and bead leak flats though. (They were mounted on 8" rims)

As for the 34x9.50 TSL ... it's a great size. Measures the same diameter as a 35" MTR. I had some rubbing with them, but then I have no lift.

Their onroad performance is atrocious ... seriously, I didn't realize how good we had it with radial tires. Flat spots every morning, HEAVY, LOUD...

Offroad, I'm not sure I ever got the true performance out of them because I was scared to air them down much. One nice thing is the sidewalls are super stiff, so you can air down quite a bit before losing ground clearance. They were really good in mud, I would say OK otherwise.

In the end, I sold them because IMHO the offroad performance was not good enough to overcome the lacking onroad performance.

Well then, that answers that, I need on-road manners almost as much as I need offroad manners, even with this being a second rig, it will be driving everywhere for a year or two.

Then the bias ply TSL's are not for you!

Heard good things about the radial SSR's though

Don't make me post that O RLY owl again!

I recall a "left the rim" flat change when we tried to go up Fall River Road this past winter but got about 200 yards, then went up Yankee hill where you tried to bash snow for an hour or so, and the rest of us watched, and that one guy was being a total douche.

Then, on the way back, down the graded road, you lost a driver rear TSL and we replaced it with the spare.

Damn, you ARE getting old.

No - I recall that incident and another similar one in Ohio, but the tire never left the rim (just unseated the bead) and had to be extracted from the springs as I recall.

and, yes, I AM getting old.

Yes, that was it...

I suppose i must just remember it differently, as i remember it being extracted from the spring, but also that only one half of the tire was still on the rim, the other half had pulled off. Maybe not. Anyway, moral of the story is, run that skinny beast on a 7in rim.
