Timing Belt HELP! Stuck!

I have a 90 4 Runner. 3.0 5 speed 4wd

I had an oil leak from my oil pump. I had to drop the diff, the pan, baffle, etc. I also had to pull the timing belt. I put it all back together, fired it up, and it idled really high, and then started revving high and low, like 2500 down to 1000 and then back up. It also overheated. Pegged the gauge. And... started smoking from the engine compartment, like blow by. It runs pretty clean, so its not like it normally smokes.
I've done like 5 or 6 belts on Toyota trucks. Never had a problem After the 2 revolutions, the crank pully points at around 3 or 4 degrees ATDC instead of 0. Never been a problem. Just adjusted it with the distributor.
I ripped it back apart, lined everything up again, backed the crank pulley off a tooth, rotated it twice, and everything was perfect. (At least I thought it was ) Including the crank pulley, pointing at 0! Started it up and got the same thing.
HELP. I'm not sure where to go from here.
When I had the front diff out, I may have swapped the vaccum lines that run to it, but I reversed them and it did't seem to help.
Its been off the road for about 6 months. I did a clutch about a month ago, drove it a little and then decided to fix the oil leak. It ran fine then. I can't imagine that its bad gas.
