Thermal insulation for ExtraCab

I am tired of looking at the sad 31 year old headliner in the cab of my Yota, it has a couple failing seams and is discolored so I am going to re do it.
When I have the liner out I want to insulate the roof from the hot So Cal sun and want to know what anyone else might be using if anyone is insulating the cabs of their trucks?

I too have an 85 extra cab. I had to replace my head liner and it does have some from the factory glued on the roof. I got a headliner out of the bone yard and if you install it right after you pull it, it is an easy job. Later I decided to do an interior color change and left the headliner out for a long period of time. Now it is a slow process of getting it stretched back into shape.

If you are wanting to add more insulation, I am not sure what to suggest.

You could use that bubble insulation .

Years ago we would get reject Air craft insulation I don`t know if that is still around.

Closed cell foam in the thickness that will fit

Lots more choices out there now then back in the early seventies.

Yeah but, in the early 70s I was only riding a Schwinn Stingray and insulation was not a popular subject.
I have a friend with his own plane over @ Whiteman airport who is also taking the upolstery class so he may be able to come up with aircraft insulation for me.
Closed cell? That is just thin foam, isn't it?
I am going to be taking an upolstery class at a local community college and one of the things they get into is head liners in our own vehicles if we so choose so I will make a head liner after I get something going to keep the sun's power from melting my head in the summer time here in So Cal.

I had the same problem in the past and I put Dynamat for insulation. Works great for Texas heat and helps to lower the noise level in the cab at the same time.
