I have done the hidden push button ignition switch. Works good. Insert key, turn on, reach hand under seat and start. But the best thing I ever did was buy the little red flashing LED's from Radio Shack and install them by the door locks. Noone ever broke in. Lucky me. Pretty bad considering I once had an $800 Alpine alarm and that truck was broken into about ten times in two years. Now days, I live out in the boonies so I don't worry so much, though I have walked out to check suspicious noises a few times with a shotgun.

my alarm cost me 350 bucks canadian. It weighs 130 pounds (135 if he hasn't pooped today), and likes to chew on an old mannequin arm... really great theft deterrent. Goes everywhere with me.

If you really want to see how easy it is to get into our trucks, give a locksmith a call.

If they suck, it will take about five minutes (less if you have wing windows) with the coat hanger type deal through the window.

If they don't suck it will take about 1.2 seconds to get the door open. I've seen it happen. They take a hard rubber wedge, and jam it in between the window and weather strip (back where the lock is), to create an opening. then they use a rod bent into a hook to pop the lock. It's faster than you can imagine.

The guy that did mine a few months back took less time than it takes me when I'm using my key and the lock gets a little sticky.

Either they are doing that, or they have an old yota key

I have a push button under my dash that engages the starter... Its great for theft recovery but when i first put it in a kept
"momentarily" forgetting about it and trying the key a few times befoer i remembered so if I put it in and i cant remember about it sometimes like a a thief is going to find it...

Here's what I've got:

It's kept the thieves away so far, that and not leaving stuff out in the open all time

why steal a tape player when pretty much any car in the parking lot is going to have a better stereo?

I think that the little red lights are a good idea too. But these are only trying to keep people from stealing your stuff, not the truck.

If you want to run an alarm, I suggest relocating the battery somewhere other than under the hood, because if they hear an alarm, that is the first place they are going to look. Another thing that I always wanted to do with an alarm, was to actually put a horn or siren thingy inside the cab, along with under the hood

On the off topic of stereos, and whether they are appealing to to thieves or not. My truck was stolen a year ago last friday. They striped all my tools and stuff out of my cab and box, but didn't touch the stereo. It looks like a mid 90's cassette deck, but if they had reached behind the passenger seat instead of just the driver's seat, they would have found that it's actually a 10 disc changer unit. lol Which they should have known anyway, considering they grabbed one of the 10 disc "Cassettes" full of CD's with everything else off the seat. Go Figure!!

But I was discussed earlier. If somone wants your truck and or the stuff in it bad enough. They will get it!!!!! Be it with a Trailer, a brick, or a Flatbed Tow truck. They will get what they want.
Like my Dad has always said, "Locks are Just to Keep honest People Honest"

That's Nuts! Pretty cool though. But I would weld it to the Shift lever instead of just bolting it that way.

Rottweiler, I'm assuming. The Rottweiler alarm system is highly effective on our rigs. My family has a model #120LBFEMALE, and she works best if she is hungry.....

when the criminal is in your car it locks the doors and small vials of nerve agent are opened and your a/c comes on and ruins his day...

or

a trick steering wheel that looks and feels real but doesn't engage with the column until you put a secret pin in to lock it...

same with brakes

no steer..no stop..no steal

I want the alarm I saw in Robocop. You try and steal the car and a flamethrower comes out from underneath the car and burns you alive. Oh wait that was my own idea, they just had one that electrocutes you.
