Starting New Motor For First Time
My buddy and I just put a new engine (3.0 V6) is his 4Runner and I was wondering if there are any special things needed to do in order to break it in properly? Should it maybe be handcranked to get the oil flowin/settled a bit? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

If it was put together with plenty of assembly lube then it should be fine. To be safe you can simply crank the motor over with the coil wire disconnected so it won't start up.
I've always been tolld to use diesel oil on brand new motors since newer oils don't have the same properties as they used to. Diesel engine oil apparently does. I don't know the details but that's what I do and I haven't had any issues.
I would also do an oil change after 100 miles or so just to make sure nothing is going on in there.
Good luck.

I would not use synthtic during first time startup. (although after the first change at 100 miles i would consider it)
pull the coil and crank it till you have oil pressure on the gauge, this took me like a full min almost.
while your doing that you might have a friend check the timming with a timming light. My distrubutor was off a tooth and gave me fits first time i tried to start it.
