SR5 cluster swap issues? Did you have any?

I've tried unsuccessfully TWICE to swap an SR5 cluster into my 85 4runner.

Both times it was the temp gauge immediately going near the middle scale with only the ignition turned on.

Once I would swap the DLX cluster back in, the temp gauge would work just fine.

Please tell me about your experience swapping in the SR5 cluster, and state what year-auto/manual your vehicle is and also what year the cluster is from (if you know).

I am hoping that the info gathered here might show a pattern if people are having issues...

I did the swap with a gauge cluster from an '86? into my '88 and I have had a few issues which are probably easy to fix...hopefully. 1) I cant seem to figure out which oil pressure sender to use...gauge just stays down at the bottom. 2) not all of the lights are working...engine light, and a few others that I cant think of right now. Hopefully just bulbs, but I think I replaced them all(with amber ones) before I put it back in. 3) The speedometer doesnt go smoothly, its kind of jumpy as i go faster, then it will level off. other than that...Im happy to have the SR5 cluster in there, Way cooler!

2+2=4runner,

if you did not swap out the oil pressure sender unit when you swapped clusters, than your oil gauge is 99.9% bad now and you will have to swap it out of the SR5 cluster.

you were supposed to swap to the different oil sender unit that gives a varying range of volts/resistance to the circuit, instead of just an on/off voltage/resistance for the dummy oil light in the DLX cluster. the on/off voltage/resistance is too much for the SR5 cluster to handle, and it burns out the gauge.

the oil sending unit that is supposed to be used with the SR5 cluster is considerably larger than the oil sending unit used for the DLX cluster.

I swapped an SR5 cluster from a 1985 into my 1988 with no problems. Plug and play. I did get the oil sending unit from the 85 to replace the pressure switch in my 88.

The 85 donor was a 5 speed 4Runner 22RE.
