Spread sheet for gas mileage logs

In a very old post here I stated I use to use Beagle software for keeping track of the 4Runners work done to it.
It also had a gas mileage log in it.

However since November of '98, I have been using just paper notes to keep track of my gas mileage.
Yes, I have records going all the way back to then.

I want to do it now either by just setting up MS Word with 5 columns, or a spread sheet.

Has anyone here already created a spread sheet just for keeping track of their MPG?
If so, can you share the file?

Do you have MS Excel? I have a simple gas mileage chart I made with Excel that I have been keeping track of my mileage since '04 with. I would be happy to let you have a look.

Whoa Chris, freaky!
I got your sheet, took out your enties and put mine in.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/index.php.../&file=mpg.xls

Like I mentioned above, I am not use to spread sheets.
I thought you had to input an enter key to add it up, but it did it for me all by itself.
Very cool.

Hard hard is it to add a $$$ section?
And how do you make it so it adds it up each time for total $$$ spent kind of like the way you did with the total of gallons?

Cool, thanks.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/index.php...le=fjc_mpg.xls

I had to enter manualy though the price per gallon at 3.079.
Your 2.89 was in there, and it did not update it with my info.
I take it that one does not auto update when it sees the total miles driven per tank, and the price of the fillup?

Thanks Chris.
I fill up every Sunday, although now with a bigger tank and better MPG I could go longer.

But I always fill up when I hit the grocery store up on Sunday mornings.

Will see if it auto updates next weekend.

Updated perfetomundo
I inputted the price per gallon after doing the total gallons, and it even tallied up my total cost for today, and it was dead on.

Very cool program.

Last week I got about 17.5 MPG, today I got 19.567, quite a jump.
This was with city/freeway driving.

Much better than 11 to 13 MPG in the '91 4Runner.

Hey Chris,

The average MPG is not updating......is there a formula error? I don't see it, but I don't use XL a lot. Maybe it is seeing un-entered calculations?

For information:
The formulas can be changed to work for people that just record the miles driven and gallons bought and $ spent (the spreadsheet would calculate the price per gallon). It is currently set up for miles driven, gallons bought, price per gallon, and it calculates the total purchase.

You are right Master Yoda, the force is with you today.

Here is mine Chris if you want to see if you can get it to work.
You can see it is adding up everything except for the average MPG.

I ran across this thread and thought it was a cool idea. I took Corey's spreadsheet and made some changes. You enter Date, Odo, Total gallons bought, total cost, and it calculates the trip, $ per gallon, and MPG for you, including average MPG. It is good for 2000 entries, which I figure should be enough for a little while and avoids #DIV/0 stuff.

You can get it at http://www.dahanga.com/MPG_Report.xls

Cool, thanks.
This will replace the one I uploaded a bit ago.

I do not know how to modify these things to make them work
Have not used to many spread sheets before.
So I take it there is an area in it somewhere in the options to make it do what you just did?

You could add columns to track brand and type (prem, regular). You have to remember the gas type affects your NEXT MPG reading.

That last one calculates on # gals and total $, and calcs the price per gal., and calcs the MPG and totals

It also calcs the trip meter for you (bad if you skip entering all your fillups?)

Yeah, I made some of the formulas conditional, so if it didn't have a value, it wouldn't waste it's time trying to calculate the field. And I added a total miles field so the Average MPG can just be the total miles divided by the total gallons, instead of averaging the individual MPGs. Total miles calculated will be good for people that didn't just buy something that's odo started at 0.

One thing I forgot to mention, you do need to manually put in the first trip amount, cause it doesn't have a previous odo value to generate off of.

Look for the "Auto Sum" button, which looks like a sideways M. It's on the toolbar at the top. Click the arrow next to that to find more functions than you could ever think of to use. What I do is select a spot on the worksheet for the function to give its answer, then select the function I want. Say you want ot average a column of numbers out...you would select "average" from the auto sum list. Then you can select the column of numbers you want to average by dragging the arrow.
