Shipping runner to hawaii, any tips?
i am shipping the runner to hawaii in 2 weeks. i am going to change the oil one more time before it goes and want to know what else you guys think should be done as it will be about a month before it gets there.
i changed the diffs/t-case and tranny fluid recently so those are covered but really have no effect on the shipping of the runner. i must leave no more than a 1/4 tank of gas and it must be empty like from the factory.
i was thinking of putting some fuel stabilizer in it and not sure what else should be done to the motor/gas. fog it? or should it be good to go.
i am sure nothing will go wrong mechanically but better safe than sorry.

It should be fine like it is. Although, when you go pick it up in Hawaii be sure to bring extra fluids (oil, coolant, trans fluid if automatic, etc.). I took a buddy of mine to pick his WRX up when it was shipped here from Hawaii and it was low on everything and we couldn't figure out why (like 2 quarts low on oil, about 3/4 gal on coolant, not just a little low). We couldn't find any leaks or any reason why it was low. Maybe they drain some for some reason or maybe it was just a fluke. I dunno as that's the only one I've had experience with.
The only other suggestion I would have is see if you can disconnect the battery. That way it won't discharge if you have any draw on it and if something shorts in transit there's no fire hazzard. Don't know if this is possible but you can ask.
Good luck in Hawaii man! Why are you moving? Did the earthquakes hinder any plans for you?

SAS, 14" of lift and 33x14.50 boggers on a 15x18 rim.. oh yeah and as many remote resovior shocks as you can fit under that thing..
Seriously... add some fuel stabilizer to it... other than that not much you can do to it.

Is it being shipped over on the flight deck of a navy ship? I just ask because we brought vehicles back from HI on our way back from westpacs. If so, a good wax job and anything that can be done to combat rust forming.
Oh yeah, you don't need to SAS it to fit over there, just a custom 14" drop bracket lift will suffice. CV angles be damned!

Don't expect super quick loading, my bro's truck sat on a pier in Long Beach a month waiting for them to get it on a boat to Maui.
As for everything else, if your moving there for a long period. I would buy all the furniture you can here, and load it with your truck into a container. I was about to move to Maui and that was my plan. There are only a few big chains that have hit the islands (Costco, Home Depot), if you can't buy it there you're looking at small stores that do charge $$$$, and plus things from the mainland are of course more expensive (shipping), or not available.
The bright side is, next year the high speed ferry is set to start up, so you'll be able to really see all the islands with your truck. Camping on Kaua'i is amazing.
