Shifting Trans out of D to N at all stop lights-OK or bad for Trans

Members,
I would like your advice and opinions.
I hate to hear the engine strain against the Transmission when I pull up to a stop light or am stopping and starting in traffic.
So, I move the Trans from D to N at at stops a lot. A whole lot.
Is this shifting from D to N and back bad or the Transmission?

You are putting a lot more strain on the drive train by dropping it in and out of gear at stop lights.

That "strain" on the engine isn't hurting it, it's designed to do that. That's one of the benefits of a torque converter is that it lets the engine run in it's normal idle speed while you're in gear yet not moving.

I would take a gander in the direction of no, you shouldn't be doing that

you should get a manual transmission
