sfa knuckle alignment/trunnion bearing replacement

so I've been looking and i can't find any info on this

if i replace the Trunnion Bearings or do trail-gears Trunnion Bearing eliminator kit on my sfa do i have to change the shims between the knuckles and caps/ high steer arms? or can i just get away with changing them out and not having to mess with the shims/ adjust the knuckle alignment?

thanks guys/gals in advance

Keep the shims where they are dont mess with them. If you get the kit from TG just put the shims back on the correct side.

If this is a daily driver, I would suggest not doing the TG trunnions eliminator. Big tires and serious trails are the only reason I would do them. Just my thoughts.

Why is this? Does it make it gawd awful to drive?

It will be used in conjunction with a sas on my trail truck, on 36 right now but in the not so distant future plan on 38-40s, that I drive to and from the trail some times 50-100km one way

I have never heard a single negative thing about the trunion bearing elimination kits. In fact that was a recommended upgrade the alignment shop gave me. I am curious as to why you would not want to do this. I will say one thing though, I have had some issues with some of the stuff that I have gotten from Trail Gear. Not trying to bash them, but sometimes they cheap out.

38-40" tires would prob need the eliminators. As well as knuckle gussets. But that's not the type of DD I'm referring to. From what I have been told by a few guys that did run them, on drive-to-work-regularly trucks, the eliminators have to be greased very often to prevent premature wear of the eliminator. And if not greased, the truck gets hard to turn and grinds a bit. Again, this is not my experience, just the experience of others I know. Constantly greasing them, and eventually put normal tapers back in. For a trail truck, no big deal.

If you are set on it, carry a grease gun and extra grease...

We run eliminators on the Ftoy but really no need on a DD IMO.
