ROYAL PURPLE (opinions)

i know there will be A LOT of back and forth on this subject probably..but oh well lol

is the FULL switch to royal purple synthetics really worth it? now i'm talkin everything..all of the fluids
Diff's
tranny
T-case
and engine.

really lookin for a mileage increase more than anything...i know my 4runner won't get GREAT mileage after it's rebuilt..but anything i can do to help is awesome!

and our '96 dodge 4x4 gets like 12mpg so it'd help there too!

just wanting to know if it is worth the cost to do the switch? i know royal purple products are expensive..but i think it's worth it!

for those of you that do run their products...where's the cheapest place to get em

if it's not TOO expensive..i might use their break in stuff for my 3.0 because i've heard LOTS of GOOD stuff about it

thanks for all the input guys!

Nope. Not in my humble opinion. But switching to synthetic is a good idea, just not Royal Purple because of the cost/performance ratio. Of course you know what they say about opinions......

I use Mobil-1 in my engines & diffs & have had stellar performance out of it since I switched from Castrol some years ago. For the price of Royal Purple compared to others I'd go ahead & get Amsoil online, it's price is right about what RP is locally (for me) or save a couple bucks & use Mobil-1

As far as the tranny I can't say as mine is an automatic & the last manual I owned was 24 years ago.

I don't use Royal Purple myself but I would think if you plan on spending that much I'd go with Amsoil instead. I bought some gear oil for my t-case last weekend and was looking at the Royal Purple, they wanted $15 for 1 quart. That's a little much IMO. I'd probably get some Redline before that but I just bought some cheap Valvoline for $5 a quart and I'm sure it will get the job done. I do have Redline MT 90 in my transmission though and I like it.

I run Redline synthetic in the tranny and tcase and like it.

Seems I'm in to the diffs often enough that I end up wasting the more expensive synthetic.

If you run it in the motor - do NOT extend the change interval until confirmed by a used engine oil anaylsis!

I just changed all my fluids out, and used Royal Purple. Yes a case of gear lube was expensive compared to dino lube. I really like it. It is still in the 20's and colder, I can feel a difference under acceleration. Trans shifts much smoother. Can't say anything about mpg yet, have not had a chance to make a long run, next weekend.

oil is just like gas there is not a lot of mark up from what the seller gets it at whoever sells it wont make much so you wont really find a cheap price i also run redline in everything with a motor in it and have had no complaints.

Everyday driver. No on all the fluids. Put it in the tranny/tcase and diffs but no the engine as it will be way too expensive to replace that often.

Trail rig. All the fluids as the engine oil might get changed once a year or less.

I used to run the redline engine oil in my scca elantra, I tell you what, I did not notice any improvement over the castrol syntec w greased lightning oil additive that I used to use. However I did notice a noticable difference in the manual trans using RP max gear oil. No power increase but shifted a heck of alot smoother. gonna run maxgear in the trans and diffs once I get everything else situated on my truck.
