Thats what I figure too. It's like a Ding Doctor trick or something.
A friend of mine is a used car dealer and has used a company called Ding Doctor. I will ask him if they have tried this too.

I gave it a shot on a few different dents ranging from .33 inches in diameter to about 1.5 inches in diameter. I wasn't able to get any noticeable difference. Ric also tried a few to no avail. Maybe we were both missing an important step but we tried with and without heating up the metal first (heat gun), let the dry ice cool the steel for 5 - 10 mins, and tried smooth versus creased dents. The only thing we really concluded after an hour or so of standing with one hand holding our rigs is that:
1) neighbors probably thought we really liked our rigs to just put a hand on it for so long.
2) We don't know how to make dents come out with dry ice.
3) dry ice bombs in plastic bottles are still fun.

Dry ice can definitely remove dents from cars. There is a good article on this at this dry ice website. They explain that all you need to do is apply the dry ice for a few minutes to the center of the dent, then let off for a few, then repeat. There are also tons of videos on youtube. Total cost is probably < $5.
