Recoating/painting Sliders

Currently, the paint on my sliders had been chipping off and has been rusting.

When I first got the sliders I sanded them down and cleaned them when acetone whipped them down again, primed them and then applied a few coats of duplicolor bed liner (which sucks in my opinion). Last year I when back though the same process and they had been badly chipped up only to have it happen again.

So right now I'm dissappointed with the duplicolor liner and I need some other opinions on paint to repaint them and too take care of the rust.

What would you all recommend?

These products are what I'm considering:

POR-15
Herculiner
3M Rubberized (had fairly good luck with in on my last 4runner)
Duplicolor crap since it's already on them and just live with it

What you all recommend for the rust? I'll be sanding the sliders down the best I can by hand (I don't have power tools) and reprimering them but I want to try and get rid of the rust.

the duplicolor crap didn't work for me, either.

Hope you find something that works well, waiting to see what other folks have used with better success!!

1) First you will want to scuff the surface, with a 3M scuff pad, so the primer/paint will stick to it, then clean the surface with acetone.
2)As far as getting rid of the rust I would recommend VHT Rust Converter. It is really easy to use, its sandable, and it can be painted over.
3) After that I would recommend using a self-etching primer. It is really good at adhering to just about any surface.
4) If necessary use a filler primer to fill any dents or excessive scratches, then sand (optional). Clean with paint thinner.
5) As far as paint is concerned, I would recommend VHT Engine Enamel. I know it is designed for high heat engine parts but it is actually a really durable paint and can take a beating. I actually used it to paint my wheels about a year ago and they still look great, even after some off-road use. It is also really easy to touch up and fill dings/scratches.
6) Finally, I would recommend using some sort of clear coat, Krylon works just fine. The clear coat will make the paint more durable and harder to scratch.

If you take your time and do the prep work properly, your sliders should look great and the paint should take a beating and last a long time.

It's a slider...not supposed to be pretty. That's what nerf bars are for...
