Rear diff bolt gone

Hi guy, not 1 week ago I got my oil changed at jiffy lube. They checked my fluids and tired to sell some stuff to me, I declined all of it. So last night I was driving to meet up my parent at the beach. We were almost there until we started smelling something burning. So we pulled over at the next exit and the rear of the 4runner was covered in oil. I got under the car to look and the fill bolt on the rear diff was missing and smoke was coming out of it.

First questions, what are the long term problems with this if any? should I just drain/fill it?

Second question, How do I approach JL about this? Ideally I would like them to replace my rear diff. as I remember going up a hill the car jerked a little.

oh 96 4runner 3.4 4x4 manual.

Hard to tell if there is any damage without tearing it all apart. Re-fill it and if there are no issues just run it.

I would try and at least get a refund from JL since the oil you paid for is now all over the highway. Who knows what kind of long term effects you will have from heating up the rear end like that.

This is why people should not use these lube places employed by flunkies.

You say convenience, well how convenient is a blown rear end when you could have done the job yourself in 20 minutes.

I should of made it clear but I was driving all night because of it and didn't get any sleep. I only changed my oil and didn't change any other fluids. They checked it and recommend that I replace the coolant, trans, and diff fluid. I refused.

Well take it in and raise hell then.

I still don't have much sympathy for anyone who uses those places though.

Red face

i have to agree they stripped to many of my plugs. then of course the didn`t do it it was all ready like that right.

Thing is just where does one go to have things like this done when you are a 1000 miles from home.

Working 14 to 16 hours 6 days a week. won`t be home with the truck for a few months.

In my case this was long before computers became main stream.
