A Quality timing chain for little $$

So the timing chain went out on my 88 4Runner. Just cruising I hear this dull "poof" and motor dead. Tow it home, rip off valve cover, and theres the gear with no chain. Guess its in the oil pan. I'm guessing the problem was that its a Japanese motor and the gear on the cam had "USA" stamped on it.
Anyway Im kind of leary of the $25 chain on Kragen's websight. Dont want/need anything hardcore, just want it to be reliable. What do you recomend for low cost high quality? And I'll replace the guides, but what about the tensioner?

Call Ted at Engnbldr.com......obviously you want a "Japanese" timing chain kit. I would recommend one with metal guides. Talk to Ted......he wont steer u wrong

I thinkthe 22R is an interference motor, you may need more than a new chain

I agree,

I have heard many reports of a broken timing chains with no ill effects on the 22r... But then i have also seen some serious damage from a broken t-chian with my own eyes, so cross your fingers.

Pray to the 22RE gods you don't have bent valves. If you don't I agree go with Engnbldr or OEM for the chain/guides.

When the timing chain snapped on my truck it didnt bend any valves at all. Might have been a fluke tho.. either way just had to get a new timing kit. If you wana be on the safe side get an OEM one. They will be more expensive but they are the best quality. Look how long it lasted you so far.

I broke my chain because some moron didn't use locktite on the t-chain guide bolts. One fell right into the timing chain when I started it up. I had no resulting damage to the valves.
