With a 94 Toyota pickup that I am trying to keep sharp, thought I would post this question although it is not Toyota specific. I recently scrubbed the oxidation off the rims of this truck to the point of taking some of the plating off in spots and knew it would only be a short matter of time before they wanted to rust again because of proximity to the ocean. Does anyone know of some kind of oil or wax film that I can coat them with the next time I get to scrubbing them again?

 

They look like painted rims to me. Prep and paint them.

 

Yes, those are painted wheels.

I would try to remove the rust and repaint the wheels. The prep. work is key to keep the paint from flaking off and keeping the rust from returning over time. There are several threads here on how people have painted their wheels.

I went with the more expensive option and had my wheels powder-coated. I probably have the only powder-coated stock Toyota 2WD wheels....... most people would think I am weird for doing that.....

 

Wasn't sure if this was paint because it is very thin and a silvery finish, but I am guessing something similar can be found in a rattler .. I also have the sense the most thorough way of getting this done is to put the truck on blocks, mask off the tires and spray and then spray the rimes, but I will also look this up .. thx!
