The way it looked and felt, I thought it was rust too!
I guess the next thing is to paint the skid plate. I'll share that as well.
Still looking for those flaps.
I wonder if home depot or lowes has similiar marterial to make my own.

If you are still looking for the plastic splash guards, I think I might have found them on www.toyomotorparts.com. They have parts diagrams with part numbers. Browsing through the diagrams, I have found some parts that I thought were only available at the junkyard for surprisingly reasonable prices through the dealer.
It appears to be under 'Body' and 'Front Fender Apron & Dash Panel' if it is the correct part you are talking about.

Awesome. I'll have to check it out later. I'm back from my 900 mile road trip and that undercarriage held up pretty well.
