Odometer / DMV error?

Odometer / DMV error?
So I'm looking to get back into the yota world and get a new vehicle. Miss my 4runner and thinking about going 5/4 size..
Autocheck says it's a one owner vehicle - so I'm talking with the original owner. It's an '03 Sequoia but I posted in this section because I figured it would apply to any used vehicle.
It has low miles. 47k. They said they only used it for family trips. The autocheck looks like it's all good, a range of 3 to 9k miles driven each year. Until 2012 which comes out to almost 18k between readings. See below:
mileage...... / ....... date
00022 ....... 06/06/2003
9,399 ....... 05/03/2004
32,026 ....... 08/13/2009
32,507 ....... 11/24/2009
37,270 ....... 05/05/2011
54,808 ....... 04/16/2012
It shows 47K on the clock. He says it's frustrating that the DMV made an error and has the DMV correction sheet in his hand.... is that legit? It shows 54808 on the title. If so, how can I make it so it doesn't look like an odometer rollback in the future if I sell it? Just say it has "57K" for official records? The trick is I don't want to make it look like I was doing fraudulent work (say if I got in an accident or something and it was reported at 51K or whatever).
I'd say we could move on and look elsewhere, but it's a super nice rig for our family.
What do you guys think?
