looks like im going to get this 150 amp alt from mr. alternator.

what else do you need to get in order to install this unit? in other words, what doesnt mr. alternator include in your purchase that you have to buy somewhere else? i know upgrading some of the wiring to 0 gauge, but what else?

 

It bolts right in...

But you should wander the forum some more looking for other folks with Mr. A parts. Some people have had trouble with them - and while I was a great supporter of him a while ago, I'm starting to think that my Mr. A isn't the strongest thing in the world.

 

yea ive heard/read about pros and cons, like everything else. i guess the real question is if its worth it to buy the alternator and take the chance that it works good for 1 year. because right now, i need a new alternator. and at that price, for the power its making, im leaning towards buying it. hopefully ill find some more conclusive answers in my research...

 

I'm no engineer, and I havent measured the output on mine, but it works and I've had no problems with it so far(knock on wood)

That being said, I have done the battery cable mod from the fuse box and dont notice any more or less power with both done in my truck.

I still see a noticeable drag on the gauge when I turn on lights or turn signals, but that may be another problem entirely. I figured that between those 2 being done, it would have fixed that.

Hmmm... does this happen with the engine at a high idle (above 1000 rpm) as well? If so, then the alternator is having issues. If not, then what you're looking at is a "normal" issue with a 2-stage alternator. It will put out more current at higher RPMs. The usual way to deal with this is to put a smaller pulley on the alternator so that it spins faster at lower engine RPMs.

 

I think it's normal. I've heard a lot of trucks here do the same thing. I'm guessing it could also be a ground somewhere.
