That civic is pretty amazing but i have one bone to pick with Hondas what the freak is up with the interference motors? My wife used to have a 1993 honda civic that was meticulously cared for from day one (her parents bought it new) with all maintenance done at dealer when all of a sudden at 112k timing belt goes and so does the motor, give me non interferance and timing chains if possible.

22r and 22re Toyota
232, 258, 4.0l AMC/jeep
Any Small block chevy
Old VW bug motors
318 360 Dodge
225 Slant six dodge
Ford 300 six
Those would be my picks but I will admit I am pretty ignorant to import motors other than some toyota motors

22re - I know a lot of them where people neglect them and they still run like they're new.
Honda D16xx, - a lot of them burn oil because people beat so hard on them, but when taken care of will last forever ^^^^
5VZ-FE - my T100 has 190,000 on it and runs excellent, and I do a lot of short driving when I'm at home.

I'm surprised no one else said this. We had a forklift which we bought used and when I changed the oil on it I drained about 1.5 quarts of sludge from the pan. I thought the oil pressure gauge was broke because it never moved. Filled it with oil, and bam! oil pressure. Pretty solid engine.

I was going to say most inline 6s. They just run forever.
I've seen a lot of Ford 300s with lots of miles.
Also I have no idea how many miles were actully on the 258 in my CJ5 but they'll run forever with just regualr mataince.

160k with zero done except spark plugs... once. Could have regapped them.
I think a lot of "rebuilds' are a result of sticking apex seals. Very simple to avoid. Switch to an oil like Rotella T, or any good synthtic detergent oil. When they stick it seems like engine failure. Which it is not. The spring-loaded seals will stick if gunked up. I had the problem once about 10 years ago. Switched to Rotella T. Engine has been perfect. Only vehicle I have that can drive almost everywhere in second gear. Because of an enormous torque range.
And rebuild is simple and cheap... should you actually need it. 4 moving parts.
If you like to race... it is the way to get into it with absolute minimum expense.
I don't get why they aren't used in more light planes.
I don't show mine below since its not so relevant to this forum.
Sorry for the diversion... but the question was reliability.

TY-out of all the post i agree with you the most
AND last but not least--the Old Volvo 4bangers--those things just kepts going and goinng and......
22r and 22re Toyota
232, 258, 4.0l AMC/jeep--if only the rest of the jeep was built right
Any Small block chevy--Slightly disagree they had there problems also
Old VW bug motors--this was a good motor as long as it didnt get to hot
318 360 Dodge--this was another good reliable motor--i give it s "B"
225 Slant six dodge--If memory serves me correctly--this was voted as the most reliable motor ever. Reports of this motor having 800K on the odo--google it and you will see
Ford 300 six
