Most reliable engine made?

One engine I haven't saw on this list is the vw 2.0 8 valve motors that were in golfs and jettas from the 80's up through at least 2005. I actually think they started putting them in some of the lower tier new jettas and golfs. These motors are slow and around 115 HP, but get good mpg and last a ton of miles. They are also not that bad to work on either as I've worked on few.
And of course the 22r.

It depends what you mean by reliable, you can have any engine be reliable if you baby it and perform regular service.
But if you mean to abuse and neglect an engine, the 22r or the 5vz
The 22r uses a chain so it only needs replacing every 75 to 100,000 miles
the 5vz on the other hand is a belt and can only be stretched to 80,000
but should be changed every 45,000

It's cool wonder if I should post the PM I just got from you, you sir are clogging the board with your sale clogging up the new posts, bumping posts that have nothing to do with your sale and sending me ugly messages now. I'm far from being a mod I just live on here and get aggravated when the new threads is hammered with this kind of stuff.
Thanks for the pm it reminds me of why I'm here and not on pirate.......

how about the ecotec LSJ motor by GM? I've had nothing but smooth sailing from them and mine is going on 116k with just timed maintenance and lots of auto-x and drag. biggest issues i've had have all been electrical, but with all stock internals on e85 one can get 450+whp and still be a reliable long-term DD.

22R(E) all day, I have a 85 4runner 22re with 350k. does not even use oil between changes. It had just over 300k when bought from the original owner. I myself have put 50k on it just back and forth from the hunting club and wheeling on the weekends with 33 inch tires.

I'm a big fan of Ford's 4.9L straight six. They used those engines in anything from the old F150 Ranger to dump trucks in the 60's and 70's. It's right up there with the 22re as far as I'm concerned. It's like the 22re's big brother.
