long term parts storage

I've got a truck [1988] identical to the one I drive. its last inspection was in 98, and the last time it was started/driven [about 2 miles to its present resting place] was about 2 yrs ago. its slowly rusting as they do when they sit. In a few weeks I'm having it hauled to my house.

the truck with a bit of work could be made roadworthy again, but I got both trucks a s a package deal, so the truck on question I plan on using as a parts truck... its major problem is that its been unused since 98, and that take a big toll.

I am undecided on how to keep the parts in good condition in the long term. I had planned to put it on frame blocks and soak every exposed part with oil then tarp it. But I am thinking removing each part, clean it, and store it in one of my good dry sheds in sort of a "warehouse", and then scrap the unusable bits or just part/tarp the shell.

my daily runner has only 97k on it, and it in great shape. I believe the parts in storage wont be used for many yrs.

whats the best method to preserve the parts for the long term?

should it be disassembled and stored, or left in one piece?
the only advantage I see in leaving it in one piece is it can be started/run every now and then... UNTIL some vital part is taken off then I'm back to this spot again.
so... maybe it should be dismantled and cleaned /stored while the parts are in good condition and forget the idea of "running it now and then".

what would you guys do?

id soak it and let it sit for couple of weeks then start attacking it with the impact, and gass axe.

pull whatever is usable off of it, clean those parts up, and store them high and dry.

scrap the rest.
