Hey Fellas,

Quick question: can I lock the differential in my 2000 land cruiser at any speed? For instance, I'm on the highway, 55 mph, can I just lock the differential if road conditions change? Is there any top speed or RMP range I should not exceed with the differential locked?

I checked the manual - can't seem to find the info.

if its set up like the 4runner's and it only locks in 4Lo will need to be at a complete stop i wouldn't recommend it for dry pavement

 

2000 Land Cruisers do not have the locking differentials...they do however have the center diff lock. You are already in AWD and I don't see how locking it in at highway speed is going to gain you much. In moderate snow and ice, AWD is the way to go especially if you have intermintiant dry spots.

 

I think it's set up differently in the land cruiser. the LC is usually in all-wheel-drive. the opitions are to drive in high range (2-speed transfer case) with the diff locked or unlocked, or to drive in low range with the diff locked or unlocked. the one thing you should not do, according to the manual, is shift the transfer case from from high to low withour first putting the transmission into neutral. I'm wondering if I can just hit that locking diff button while I'm in hi range at any speed. While I'm thinking about it, there must be some sort of MPH or RPM limitation if I have the transer case in low range, but again, the manual says nothing about that.

 

snobdds, I see you are correct; the L.C. has center locking diff, not locking diff.
