Hi everyone. I just bought a 97 T100 that has lift blocks this week and found this thread. Being newish to the suspension modification business, how do I start the process of going from blocks to springs? What factors do I need to consider? How much will I end up spending for them (I'll put them on myself)? etc.
I'm not afraid of mechanical work and replaced the rear axle on my F-250 so I know some of the effort involved.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for writing back. Sorry I wasn't clearer. What I was wondering about was if I have to worry about spring rates, load, etc. or do I just go to the local spring shop (or 4x4 shop) and say 'I need some 4" lift springs for a 97 T100' and they'll know what I need.

Also is there a preferred brand or brand to avoid in springs?

Check out Deaver, All Pro, Alcan, or Advanced Off Road, just to name a few. I know they do the smaller Toyota trucks, I'm sure they can do T100's as well.

I'd start HERE.

Thanks! Great to be here.
Thanks for the Alcan link too. Their website is pretty decent.

Do you know how much I can expect to spend on a set of rear springs? I'm just looking for order of magnitude really. $200, $500, $1000, etc.

I know that Deavers for Tacoma's are in the $500 range, but Alcans are custom made for your application, so they're gonna be a wee bit more.

Another thought is that I know with the Tacomas (at least up until 05) that you can retrofit 63" Chevy springs. I think you get around 2" of lift with them, and they are pretty flexy. Pair that with a set of extended shackles, and you've got a pretty nice setup. I'm thinking of eventually going that route myself. Do a search on "Chevy springs" here on YT. There's a number of threads about the swap.

Cool! Thanks. That's a reasonable price. I'll start looking around for that. I need to make the rear end up close to the same height since the front's already lifted too.

Like a small penis??? I know exactly what you mean.

Its obvious your friend is only looking at the pics of all those shiny show trucks. Tell him to take up reading, because those same mags have been preaching for years about the dangers of using lift blocks, especially in front.
