Ive Finally Had IT!

The EGR is comming out tommorow if i think its going to be as beneficial as it sounds. Its been giving me a check engine code 71, makes the truck reak of gas or fumes when the trucks running and gives me horrible gas mileage. How would I go about doing this? Ive seen threads and have searched but im wondering if i can remove any of the hoses aswell or just the EGR vavle? I want to clear up my engine bay and stuff.

Perhaps the fume smell is a bad charchoal canister?

its a 1989 toyota 4x4 v6 ext cab

PS> how much hotter does the engine get when the EGR is removed? I noticed my temperature guage goes about halfway, Does anyone have a picture of there engine temp guage at operating temperature? Thanks....
