Angry Installing sunroof and cut WAAY to big of hole! What now????!

The title says it all! I bought a nice sunroof kit for my truck and got started today.. All was good till I went to set the thing in and found the hold I cut in the roof to be about 1" to big all the way around! I accidentally used one of the head liner templates. Well now I need to find a new sunroof kit ASAP! Does anyone know of a certain model that would need a 33 1/8" x 17.5" cut out or a little larger? I found a CRL that needs a 35 1/8 x 17 1/8 do you think It would work? I cant beleive this happened! What a bitch!!!

ouch...that really sucks I'd try returning the one you have and buying the biggest one you can find that will still fit your roof. One thats even bigger then the hole you have now if you can find one. Or cut out your roof to 35 1/8 across and cut a 35 1/8x3/8" piece of sheet metal and weld it in place shrink the hole down to 17 1/8" HOpe that makes sense good luck.

Yeah, I would look for a new sun roof kit that will fit in the hole. Or weld in sheet metal as Geoff mentioned. I don't think theres many other options.

Question I think I found one..

I think I may have found one.. It requires a 17 1/8 x 35 1/8 cut out and mine is 17.5" x 33 1/8" it has a 18 3/16 x 36 3/16 frame so I think it would work.. What do you think? I wonder if you can split the difference on it and seal it down?

If getting a bigger one doesn't work out, you can always do a custom rag top.

I know how much that sucks - I once drilled a roof for an antenna - used a speck of something by accident instead of my mark. Ended up being off by like 3 inches... I now leave the critical cuts/holes to do before midnight...

Nope, measure at least THREE times...take a break, come back and measure again, go take a nap, come back and measure again and then, only then cut...cause once you cut it...it don't grow back!

Good luck dude! And keep us posted of the solution.

You may look into those rag-top sunroofs like they used to have on the old VW Bugs... I think you can get those pretty big... I'll see if I can google something for ya

I'm not sure if this size is bigger, if not I think they make them as big as you want. They use to be popular to put on camper shells back in the minitruck days and I remember you could get them like 4 feet long
