How they age

We all know that Toyotas age better than anything else on or off the road. Here's a chart of just how much better.

This is from Consumers Union, a.k.a. Consumer Reports.

One friend of mine is now convinced that I wasn't joking when I told her not to buy a VW because they're junk. Another found out the hard way.

Yotas Rule!

I keep trying to explain to people that "junkyards don't have a bunch of old Toyota trucks" when I can't find something. Aside from the occasional rollover/mashed front end now and then, the rest are STILL on the road.

I agree, it's tough finding junkyard parts for old yota's, they just aren't there....

go to BC canada, there you will find hundreds of old wrecked yota's, no joke, i was there in Jan, 07 and i coul not belive the amount of scrap yota's, there was even a 70's FJ/BJ45 pick-up! theonly problem was that the axel had been worn away by abuse an neglect! if i had the money i would have taken it. but there where tons of old 4Runners, pick-ups, FJ 40's etc etc etc.

I already knew that most everything besides Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford and Chevy (trucks) were crap. This just confirms it.

Got a link to the actual article??

I actually scanned that graph out of a trade magazine from work. The article was about Consumers Union and the graph was just an example of their work. I'm sure there's a url for the original piece the graph was generated for/from, I just don't know where.

I do hear that the other manufacturer's autos are catching up every year though. I mean how could Hyundai offer such great warranties if they haven't stepped up quality quite a bit?

Our internal network is down, so I had some time to do a little searching. Anyone with a subscription to Consumer Reports or ConsumerReports.org may be able to copy some stuff and post it here. There's a 'How They Age' link under 'Cars' - 'Reliability'.

Just saw that Chrysler is going to offer Lifetime Powertrain Warranties on some models next year. I guess they haven't seen this data.

I hope their "powertrain" warranty doesn't include the transmission or that company is going to be screwed. All of their vehicles should come with a spare transmission right in the trunk!

Probably because we have a high percentage of Toyotas here. There are 4Runners everywhere you look on the roads.
