How to stop dash cracks
#21
I think some of the cracks are from the sun, but this past winter it got very cold here where I live. I had a perfect dash pad and over night it cracked the full length from the front to the bottom, right down the center. I have never had heat cause this much damage. Not sure how to protect them from the cold.
The 17013 Midnight Black is what I used on all of my interior color for mine.

Here is the other color.

Here it is perfect.

Next day I was is in the runner and this happended over nite. Must have been the cold that got ito it. It cracked all the way to the front. Grrrr!!!

As far as stopping the cracks goes, I've used little dabs of JB Weld on the tiny cracks to hold the edges together. So far, they haven't gotten any worse. I also saw cracks developing in the indentation on top of the pad. I pushed JB Weld into the cracks and wiped off the excess. It's a close color match and isn't obvious. My 2 cents...
got one crack started on my dash in the front that can only be seen from outside the windshield (sigh).
i used some shoe goo, it's like a rubbery epoxy for shoe repair/protectant.
hope for the best, if not time for one of those nice OE looking plastic dash caps.

I have one crack in my dash but its never bothered me. its 26 years old and hasn't been garage kept... garage kept is really the other way to prevent it, and use screens when the truck is outside.

Jumbo Sunshade at Costco $7.00, keeps the truck 30 degrees cooler and doesn't let the sun beat down on the dash. Small investment and a bit of a pain, but should be well worth it. In fact getting into a cooler truck makes it a good "investment" already!
