How does a truck cap fit on a 2007 composite bed?

I did a search on this -- didn't find anything.

My new Tacoma has the composite bed, of course. I'd like to get a fiberglass cap for it eventually -- one that I'd put on for vacations and then take off, as needed.

I see the bed rails on the sides are about a half inch higher than in the front and back. So how does a cap fit on there? Do the bed rails on the sides just snap off? It looks like they might.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about your issue, but I would think that a topper dealer would be able to tell you. I would suggest staying with a major manufacturer like SnugTop, Glass Tite, ARE, or such.

I'm partial to fiberglass toppers, since they usually match the body lines of the truck better.

Yeah, but every cap I've ever seen -- the base of all four sides are on the same horizontal plane. That won't work with the new Tacomas, since the siderails are higher than the front and back rails.

So I'm wondering how this is dealt with. Does the side rail pop off? Or do the cap manufacturers shape the base of the cap to fit?

Somebody out there must know what I'm talking about...

SnugTop makes an excellent cap, but the closest place you can get one is near the Mississippi River I believe. I ran into that issue when I wanted to purchase one for my Tacoma.

I would recommend ARE as an alternate.

The companies mold the cap to fit the truck and you keep the bed rail rails attached. Check out SnugTop and ARE websites.

There's an ARE dealer near me. I've contacted them. Thanks!

I deal with LEER caps at work. They have aluminum blocks that slide into the tracks then you send a bolt through the cap and bolt it onto the tracks. We have sold over 100 caps onto new Tacos and have not seen any problems.

Leer Caps also have what is called "skirted sides". That means the cap comes down over the factory bed caps so you don't have any break up.
