Getting ready for a Road Trip

How's it going. New to the forums because I just recently got a 99 4Runner Limited. Since I'm new to the vehicle, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for Road tripping in a 4Runner Suggestions for maintenance on the vehicle, or just general precautions I should consider. What tools should i have with me in case of an emregency? There are currently 195 000 km on the truck (121 000 miles).

I am driving from Toronto, Ontario to Edmonton Alberta (about 3500 km)

Link to Route: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...,46.582031&z=5

I already checked all the fluids. Changed oil with synthetic 5w-30 (I meant to put in 10w)

New Firestone destination a/t tires, alignment done, all round brakes done, and spark plugs.

Belts are still good to go.

Thanks for your suggestions.

sounds like you are on top of it. just check your spare tire and make sure all your jack pieces are there. other than that i would just take a small metric tool kit, vise grips, and some screwdrivers.

Thanks. sounds good. I had a Job Mate Tool kit that was on sale for 25$ a couple of years ago, but the case was so horrible, that the tools are now scattered all over the place from the transfer of the trunk of my old ford Taurus, to its current location. I'll be doing so organizing.

As for the fuses, will any auto parts store, miscellaneous fuse package work, or is there something more specific I should be looking at?

Thanks

Pop open your fuse boxes and take note of what kind of fuses they use. Go to the parts store and buy a bunch of each. Extra fuses are a must for any EFI vehicle.

Did you check the rear diff fluid?

how old is your antifreeze? If its older then 90k then change it out.

Bring an extra gallon or two of coolant and a few jugs of oil Bring a small socket set just incase. Try a pawn shop, they usually have small cheap tool sets that make perfect emergency kits.

Sounds like your pretty much good to go though. Make sure your tires are up to their max so you get the best mileage.
