Gasket sealer

Gasket sealer
I'm putting on the head for my 87 22re and would like to know if and where I put sealer on the block for head gasket. I also am putting new gaskets on for timing cover, water pump etc. Would also like to know if I should put seal on any gaskets or just put them in. Thank you

Simple.. never put any sealant on the head to block mating surfaces. head gasket is designed to work on its own.
I would be using gasket maker around any rubber oil gasket which is exposed to constant oil flow, like the timing cover or oil pump.
But steer clear of it on coolant channels. Coolant channels usualy have a more papery gasket which works best if left alone.
SO water pump, jsut go the gasket alone.
Thermostat, gasket alone
tminig cover, rubber gasket and small amount of sealant.
Oil sump, gasket and plent of sealant.
rocker gover, Gasket alone
there are others but cant think of them off my head
