Gas Prices

The national gas price average is around $3.55/gallon, and keeps going up. California has an average of about $4 per gallon. This summer it is expected to hit $5. It is horrific...

How is this affecting everybody? I know for me, it is delaying my purchase of tires (upgrade to 285's) because a) I am spending $80 a month on gas, so I can't save up for the tires, and b) my mileage will drop with the 285s.

Is this hitting anyone else as hard as it is me? Do you go off road less? Have you changed anything about your rig to get better mileage??

I fill up my Tundra once a week, 20 gallons. Gas goes up $1.00/gallon that's $80/month.
Most of us waste that much a month on luxuries.
My truck gets empty. I fill it up. I swipe my Amex. I pay it off at the end of the month.
I'm not wealthy by any means but if not for the local media, I'd never know or care what gas costs. Gotta have it so I don't sweat it.

No clue what it is here.

I have a set amount of money I set aside each week for gas. If gas prices are up, I buy less and drive less. I'll bike, carpool, or just skip a trip rather than blow my budget on gas.

I'm retiring my truck from DD duties and will be riding a motorcycle that gets 60MPG.

Even with the price of gas at what it was before they went up it was still expensive when you only get 15MPG.
I never complained though. I need it so I buy it.

last spring/summer i was paying 4 something a gallon.

i was spending 100 a week. so your 80 a month is pretty good.

i need it, so i buy it. its kinda like someone with an addiction to cigarettes, they need them, so them buy them, no matter the price. i just dont eat out as much. etc.

I went through $30 of gas yesterday. First day of the motor swap, how can i NOT have lead foot

I dont really mind. I dont spend money on stuff i dont need (except truck parts), so that helps pay for it. I pretty much just ignore prices and fill up when i hit a quarter tank.
So my advice. Find the place with the cheapest gas. And go there everytime. But dont look at the price. Just dont think about it.

And try to get some over time hours

Cheapest gas here is $3.84/gal. Some places are $3.95/gal. I'm sure it will hit $4 this week . Its a necessary evil. I have to have fuel, especially during the winter. I'm getting a bike this summer to ride to work.
Heating fuel is going up, too, of course. I've been debating about moving to a warmer place.
My Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend will be large this year, and the following, with gas prices $4+.
My trips to see family will be less.
I get about 15mpg average around town. I CAN make a tank last 2 weeks, but I LOVE to drive, especially this time of year, so I go on long cruises in and around town. I'm trying to stop that, but I just enjoy being in my Yota.

its actually forcasted to take a slight dive in price after the quake and all. since japan is pretty much maimed right now there isnt as much of a demand for the crude. japan was the 3rd largest consumer of oil.
but here in charlotte its 3.55 87. but hop over the border to sc and its 20cents cheaper. always is... i miss living in that state right about now..

glad to see everyone is managing.

Ive made 5 freeway trips home (~40 miles) without using my brake pedal (entrance to exit of course). I figure every time i use my brakes, I am wasting gas too. I spent the summer in Wyoming, and returning to California was a bit of a drag...

I spend about 40 to 50 bucks a week. The motorcycle is coming out as soon as it stops raining...hell the rain never stopped when my motor blew

10 dollars a week riding in the rain sounds better than driving my baby at 50 a week
