Full meal deal Synethetic switch?
I'm just curious if you have done a full synethetic switch on your vehicle (Crankcase Oil, & Gearlube or ATF Fluid for your Manual/Auto Transmission/transfer case & Gear lube for Diffs) and if you could report back what you swapped in to where (IE what type of fluid/brand, and where it went), and what consequences/benefits you noticed as a result from the swqap (EG MPG differneces, maybe smoothness or performance increases/decreases, etc.).

I have never completely switched to synthetic in my runner but I only run Royal Purple in my talon and she has thanked me for it over and over. Never got any better mpg but she ran a lot smoother and it got rid of my lifter tick.

Synthetic
Done alot of looking at Syn... I used to be a chemist and still find it difficult to understand ... there is an awful lot of misinformation and miscommunication in my opinion. The main benefit is longer oil change intervals, but no car company will guarantee their car if you move to long intervals so guess what that means.
For an older model that gets lots of care and attention, I strongly recommend regular old petroleum cracked oil. Change it when it needs it, check it often. I live in AZ so I run 10W40 in the summer and 5W30 in the winter so that means i change it twice a year, at least. I have a 96 T100 with 160K, it burns no oil.

My only miscue was not putting a long interval oil filter, which I just swapped out. There was not a difference in mpg but I did notice better shifting from my auto tranny once I did a flush and replaced the tranny fluid w/ Amsoil.
As far as weights and such, I just asked my buddy to get the right stuff and put it in. All I know is that I am running 5W30 in the crankcase.
If you want Amsoil, Bob_98SR5 is a dealer and can get you the right fluids for your truck.

I ram M1 syn and Redline fluids in the gearboxes and transfer case on my '93 Eclipse for over 8 years and most of those years it was also raced and when I did break the tranny in year 5 I had virtually no wear on the parts after 80k+ miles.
Right now I'm getting ready to do synthetics in the gearboxes of the Runner here shortly.
