I am just curious why so many people in here are advocates for replacing fuel filters. If going by TOYOTA'S recommendations you should never need to replace your ff under normal conditions. We have a customer with over 600K on his 3.0(original block no rebuild) and have never replaced his filter. I'm not at all trying to bash anyone, just curious is all

 

600K from a 3.0? Wow I always hated those engines, not worth the metal they were made from in my opinion. I think I may have to declare bs. As far as the fuel filter goes, I dont think toyota was expecting us to put these trucks through what we do, at least not mine. You can run the same air filter forever also, it will run, but will it be at its top condition? Probably not. We just do it for peace of mind, and preventitive maintenance. Plus they cost like what? 5 bucks?

 

Can I expect 600K from mine? I am not original owner nor do I know how many owners my 88 4Runner has had. I got 223K on it now. what can realistically be had mileage wise from these 3L?

Does "drowning" your truck count as normal? Because that's why I changed mine.

 

I had my 884runner since 03 and changed my fuel filter once so far with one from k&n and havent had any problems but on average i would change it every couple of years it saves from surprises around the corner

 

under ideal conditions (fuel filtered from gas station, some are some are not) then i could see the fuel filter lasting a long time, but most gas stations don't filter their gas from the tanks or if they do its not much

 

I've seen the insides of too many old fuel filters to leave mine go.

 

Like I said...normal conditions. lol Im sure toyota doesn't consider drowning normal. lol Redbluff...honestly no BS! I agree the 3.0 is a pile of junk. They have sure made me alot of money tho. The guy had a couple valve jobs done which can be expected as they burn ex valves like nobodys business. Phil...as long as you maintain your truck regularly you can hit 600K. Change your oil every 3k. Adjust your valves every 60k. Plugs every 30k. Go by the factory service schedule. If your truck is used really hard maybe do your services early. We even have several customers who have over 300k on their 3.4's. Just a matter how you maintain them

 

I take it you've never had one plug while driving huh? I've had two go since I've started driving this truck so I keep one in the glove box just in case. Nothing like being in the fast lane on a hill and having the truck all but shut off in front of a line of cars and barely give you the chance to get out of the way.

 

Nope..can't say I have and I have owned 4 toyota's from 84-97. There is always an exception to the rule I guess

600k miles??!! That's quite an accomplishment. Then you figure in the $ in gas. Giving it a GENEROUS 18MPG, average fuel price of $2/gallon. We're looking at ~$66,000!!!!!!!!!!!
