Steel is strong, cheap but heavy
Aluminium is relatively expensive, but pretty strong and light
Plywood is cheap easy to work with and light, but uh...perhaps not the right choice.

Go with steel.

1/4" steel plate!

aha that would probably be wayyy too heavy but would put up to a beating.

Just call up Bud @ Budbuilt and he can take care of ya.

1/4 is way too thick.

Go with 3/16. Mine is, and it has taken a BEATING. It won't let you down.

Im with Axle Ike...I was kidding on the 1/4 inch. Thats what the belly pan on my old truck was made of and was overkill.

3//16 will take a pounding and if you do bend it, it can usually be pressed back into shape. But if you do bend it, you were probably doing something you shouldnt. LOL

I have a 3/16 Budbuilt and it is bent to hell.

But everything behind it isn't, and that's the point, right?

Picking up what from where? The bumper or the skid or the material for the skid?

go to a scrap yard and grab one off an old truck that is cheap. clean it, paint it, and call it your own. Worst situation would be slight modification to fit mounting.
