Smile Ford supercharged 3.8L V6 into an 88 Runner

Has any one seen or heard of anyone swaping a Supercoupe Supercharged 3.8L v6 into a 1st or 2nd gen runner or pickup? If so please let me know. I have recently perchased a running 89 Mercury Cougar XR7 and am planning a swap into my 88 Runner. I have approx. 290,000 miles on the runner and its time for more power. I have heard and seen 5.0L V8's into these runners but don't know of any of the 3.8L engines being swaped in. I know there are kits for the Ford V8's but don't know of the V6's. I currently have the 22RE/5 speed combo. If someone could help on this matter I would be greatful.

Even if someone has done it, its still going to be all you on a custom build. Good luck

I don't know if I would use the Ford 3.8L. They have a history of blowing head gaskets. My mother's thunderbird only had 80,000 miles on it and the head gasket blew and cracked the block. My cousin's supercharged (thunderbird super coupe) 3.8 let the head gasket go at a little over 100,000. I think ford has some good engines in the past, but this is one I would stay away from. I even helped my neighbor replace his head gasket at around 75,000 miles. I'm sure with the right aftermarket stuff you could make it more dependable, but their history is against them with me.

ford? ew. anything ford from the mid 80s to early 90s id stay away from... hell anything american thru those years actually... dad had a 83 mustang (piece of S), mom had a 87 crown vic... even with regular maintenance engine died at 80,000 miles.. i had a ford bronco before my yoda, and while it was strong and great for wheelin, it ate gas like no tomorrow, leaked oil, the automatic tranny kept going out, valves kept messing up.. you get the point. id find a way to drop a 76 chevy camaro 350 engine in that yoda.. my buddy did it and it runs like a beast, 140,000 miles and still running strong. just my 2 cents worth.. any thoughts?

this isn't true at all. LSx series motors get excellent gas mileage.

Our last 87 f-150 larait had over 500,000kms on it before she blew the rear end up (taking the tranny with her) Good ol 5.0 Pulled hard and was almost the same milage as my 3.0 - now thats sad!

We have another 89 f-150 with the 4.9L inline 6, that thing is bulletproof! Too bad rust has taken over the damn thing
