Differential gurus, may I pick your brains?

I'm going to be looking for a used 3rd shortly, and I don't know what to look for. Obviously chipped or rounded teeth is bad, but how much play is tolerable when I wiggle the ring gear or push the pinion in and out? If I can feel anything is that too much, or is a tiny amount of slop ok?

Ring gear backlash should be about .13mm - .18mm(.0051" - .0071"). In other words, just barely any play.

The pinion should not have any play. Pushing/pulling on it, you shouldn't be able to move it AT ALL.
