Angry coolant temp sensor

Ok so here in my problem, i have an 86 4runner 22re. i cant get it to run at all it fires once and that's it. then if you let it sit for a few hours and try again it will fire once again. truck has been siting for a few years. could the coolant temp sensor be making it think its over heating and be making the ecm tell in to run lean? i know that happens with some of the older Chevys i wasn't sure if Toyota had the same set up. any help would be great.
thanks

Temp sensors are cheap (12 bucks maybe?) and when old they often stick. But the one extra nice thing you got going for you? You have a 22re! If you had a 3.0 you'd spend 3 hours replacing the temp sensor!

So I say give that a whirl first!

Try checking the solenoid resister, if its bad your 4Runner won`t start. The one on my 86 4Runner went bad and it wouldn`t start, also check the TPS, ive personally seen those go bad and cause a truck not start. Look below the throttle body and you will see two sensors, the thermal time switch is the larger sensor, it tells the cold start injector when to come on or shut off.
