Cleaning Aluminum Wheels with mild to medium pitting?

What is the best way and best products to use to clean and polish these wheels? They have normal wear with some mild pitting. Power Ball, sand paper, etc.?

I saw some stock 4runner alluminium rims some guy i knew had and he cleaned them with oven cleaner. They looked good
Others i have seen used some polish and/or some really fine wet sand paper!
