Chrome corrosion protection

I have my first spot of corrosion on the chrome on my rear bumper. I've seen chrome bumpers on other cars on the road that are flaking and quite ugly looking. So what can I do to clean up this "rust like" corrosion and what can I do to prevent further corrosion from developing?

I have the same thing on mine, I grinded-off the rust and plan on fiber glassing the hole, probably tremclad the inside too. I have chrome paint that doesnt look too much like paint. You could probably fix the rust and dechrome (paint them black) the front and rear bumper to match

Buy a can of fluid film. Take a rag and wipe some on. Coat the inside of the bumper that won't be seen as well. When you clean/wash your truck, have a seperate mitt for cleaning your bumper to deal with the film as it's obviously somewhat oily/waxy. This stuff not only protects but it "works" on corrossion as it protects. I use it on my bumpers and to undercoat the truck. It's an easy 10 minutes of your time to apply and regularly apply every few monthes or so.

Use some detailing grade steel wool. buff the dirt, rust, or whatever off, and get some wax, and wax the bumper when you are done, so it will not only look killer, but it will be protected. I'd recommend re applying wax 3-4 times a year.

And, no, if you buy the correct steel wool, it WILL NOT scratch the chrome, as long as it is real chrome, not plasic with chrome-like film over it.

Fluid film IS the brand. The aerosol cans have a red cap with a beige/brown sides. You should be able to find it at your local autoparts (or most of of them) store. The website is http://www.eurekafluidfilm.com I believe.
