I already have a hi-lift, but I recieved teh recent harbor freight catlog and they are selling a similar item for 29.00

$36.99????? unless I missed the $29, still not a bad deal though.

 

I have a Hi-Lift copy, not that one though. Mine's done me okay, but when put up next to a real Hi-Lift you can see the build quality differences.

My concern about this one would be that it's Habor Freight, and their "Central Machinery" line. Gawd that stuff is junk.

Considering that we're talking about buying equipment that may get you out of the middle of nowhere, and may even save your life, I wouldn't recommend it. A real HiLift isn't THAT much more - save your pennies for an extra week and buy the real thing.

 

 

Just buck up an extra $20 and buy from a great American company.

I've got one of them things. Works awesome, saved me more than once. Spend the extra $20 on gas and go wheeling.

 

Bought a 48" Hi Lift today at Tractor Supply. Was $48.00. I am usually good at pricing things elsewhere before I buy them, but I needed it this weekend to lift up my front porch and utility shed. I noticed they had the copies for $27.00.

 

I got one of the "copies" at tractor supply. Larin is the brand I think. All cast construction, seems to work real smooth. The one I went to didn't have the "real" ones. I think they were like $70 at 4WheelParts last time I was over there.

Now just need to figure out how to mount/carry the danged thing!

 

You can lay it down in the back with the bar over the back seat then take out a headrest and reinsert it with one of the posts through a hole in the jack to hold it in pretty good. Mostly its a cheap trick though.

I bought the one from harbor freight about a year back (think I got it for $30) and have been pretty happy with it. It has done its job quite a few times and other than some chips in the paint, it seems to be taking the abuse. Whether or not it's worth the extra $30-$40 bucks for the real deal I don't know.

 

I bought a farm jack from atwoods for $30 on sale. Its beefier than a highlift and rated at 8000lbs vs 5600lbs for a high lift. I have put it to good use, including as a makeshift wench to drag my 4runner fully loaded with a weeks worth of supplies and gear.
