celica motor in 90 pickup

i need a motor for my 90 pickup. a buddy at works father in law has one out of a celica sitting in his shed he bought for a spare for his 4runner that he will sell me for $175. i havent talked to him yet to find out if its efi or carbed. did the celica 22r's come efi? i've only seen them carbed dont wanna have to swap a carbed engine over. would the motor be a direct swap into my pickup or would i have to change anything? any chance the clutch is the same? i need a clutch also and i think he said theres a fairly new one on the motor. also the motors been sitting in buddys garage for a couple years.any chance anyhting would be wrong with it from sitting that long?

it depends some celicas were efi before the pickup

make sure its the same genration of block type their are 2 kinds
pre 84 and post 85
both should be a direct replacement the efi stuff should bolt right up but the pre84 will not perform as well

Just so you know all the sensors and efi stuff will need to be swaped over to the donor motor. In other words you need to strip down both motors so all you have left is a block, head, and the timing cover stuff then swap over all you 91 stuff so your sensor plugs will be a plug and play affair.

With that said it will not matter if it is carbed or efi these motors are the same thing on the inside.you have to swap you efi stuff no matter what.

The only celica engine that will swap without any changes to the motor, is from an 85 celica. 84-older are different with different intake designs, EFI systems, exhaust, etc etc.

They started EFI Celicas in 1983, but they were analog injection instead of a computer controlled EFI. That started in 85

not sure if the fluids are still in it have to get out this weekend and look at it. theres a brand new rad in mine only driven once or twice on it. i might not bother buying it if i have to swap eveything over.i was kinda hoping to avoid that. i also know where theres a carbed 84-85 sfa truck i can get for a little more i would buy instead if i were going swap stuff. then i'd have the axles and other parts for my 87 truck. if the motor were just a matter of buying it sticking the starter and alt on it dropping it in i would buy it in a second.
