Break in My Engine???

Ive seen a bunch of different stuff on how to break in an engine, and some of it contradicts. I just finished my first engine replace with a reman on the 3vze...whew. now I know what all that crap does coming out of the plenum!!!...anyways

I was going to oil prime/install plugs/fire up/ bring to 1200-2800rpm for half hour

then they say shut er down and change oil?

Then fire back up and drive it around for 500miles!!! under 50mph!!!

is this the deal??? any recommendations???

thanks and wish me luck.

I did this on all our dirt bikes as well as my Subaru WRX. No issues. I will use this method from now on, but do what you like.

You need to get those rings seated though.

The motoman site seems to be a good way. My machine shop told me to "drive it the way you'll drive it". Don't go easy on it, but I wouldn't redline it, either. Seems like keeping it up around 2000 rpms the first few minutes of it's life is a good idea. The biggest thing seems to be that until it's broken in (and really even after that) make sure you don't lug the engine. Apparently lugging is really hard on the bottom end any time, but you especially don't want to do it when it's brand new.

I'd change the oil after like 500 miles, not right away, but I suppose if you wanted to do it right away you could...I'd still do it after a few hundred miles though, just to make sure if there's anything in there that started circulating, you get it out. Plus that's a good time to re-torque things, like head bolts.

I have built many high horse engines, for myself and others. After I finish each one, we go put it on a dyno and run it hard to get power numbers. After that I change the oil, drive 500 miles and change the oil. One of my mustangs has 480hp and 60000 miles so far

run it like you stole it
the the more you run it like you would if it had 20-30k on it the more likly it will run the same way with 20-30k.
my friend and have built a couple 572 chevy motors and first thing we do is run them down 1/4 mile hard change the oil and do it again change the oil again and drive it home on the street after around 5-600 miles change the oil again then run it for the normal oil cycle then change to simi syn after a full oil change cycle drain and go full syn and have yet to have a issue out of either of the two 572 and we do the same on most all the chevys we do.
I will be doing the same thing with my 22 re soon as I get done with it.

I am glad to hear others are doing this, besides myself. I got a lot flack for running my new motors hard.
