I use Valvoline Max Life Synthetic Blend 10w-30 with a Purolator Pure One filter. The Max Life stuff is supposed to be formulated for vehicles with over 75,000 miles.

oil from any larger brand is a good choice (except for Pennzoil and Quaker state) , napa oil is also very good. i dont trust generic brand oils especially when it comes to synthetics, this is because there is a lot of molecular science involved in synthetic fluids.

i agree on the 10w 30 GTX syn w K & N oil filter i noticed it ran alot smoother when i used that i also use lucas oil in my power steering and oil on my truck since im gettin closer to the 300,000 mark every month. i drive my truck every day and i put on like 1500 miles a week on avrg sometimes more so i do what i can to keep it running strong, i also use engine flush every other oil change, it might be a lil more costly for all the lil extras but its worth preserving the engine as long as possible. it treats me good so i treat it good

Run cheap oil. Just change it more often. If you have a new to you yota

Synthetic oil or all the additives are snake oil. Just replace the oil 3000 miles or less on a rigid schedule.

Fancy oil doesnt get you better mileage. Doesnt reduce wear. Doesnt get you laid. It just cost more.

It's all a load of crap to take money from your wallet.

Show me one case were someone used cheap oil and changed it every 3k
and it caused any issue whatsoever.

Toyotas cant taste the oil.
I agree and I disagree on this. Oil in terms of its lubricating properties is pretty much the same across the board. thats where I agree. If you have a motor that is prone to overheating, then I would recommend synthetic. Pour a sample of each into separate frying pans and turn on the heat, keep stirring them and tell me which one reacts better to the heat. The traditional will indeed break down faster and thicken up and turn black before the synthetic will. At least thats what it did for me...

I use this, or 5w-30, whatever walmart has when I need it. I change my oil about every 4,000. But thats only because I add half a quart every fill up, so by the time I change it, none of the original oil is left anyway.

I have been into a couple of motors that had ran Pennzoil in them and maybe it was just bad maintaince on the owners part but they did have alot of sludge build up. It could of just be coincidence. I like to stay with Castrol but feel most major brands are probably similar.

As far as the oil filters, the dealer isnt much more then what the parts stores want for one. A factory oil filter is sealed and I have never seen any other brand filter sealed when you open it. If I understand right the factory oil filter also as a backflow preventer in it as well, which would help prevent dry starts.

Im starting to feel that all of the major part stores are in general starting to sell low quality parts in general.

Oil and filter

In my 22r I run valvoline 10w40 regular and a fram ph43. The filter is actually for a mopar big block but I have found its bigger than the factory toyota filter but has the antidrain back valve like the factory filter.

Oil change every 5000 to 7000 miles, doesn't matter what brand. 219,000 miles and counting.
