Well, I don't know how it works on mud ,but when I had to replace my front seal oil was everywhere !! even on the tail gate . It worked pretty good for me I spayed it on waited about 2 minutes .. spayed somemore .. Then I used a to wash it all down . It came off easy after that . That's all I use to clean with . I used this stuff called ,"Bar keepers friend " on the rims .

get a hand wire brush from your local ace, with the engine slightly warm spray it down and then use said whatever cleaner, let it sit for a min or 5 then scrub !! then spray down, run the truck to let dry..

old mechanics trick to use on grease and oil is oven cleaner, doesn't work on mud though. spray it on, let it set, then power wash it off, then spray everything with wd40.

when i clean my engine bay i just run down to the local powersports shop (atv, dirtbike, motorcycle dealer) and pick up some of the suzuki motorcycle cleaner.. im sure there are other brands and its probably just something re-bottled with suzuki's name on it but it works awesome.. doesnt pit aluminum like simple green or castrol superclean.. and wont attack vinly coated wireing or rubber like some other cleaners can...but for really nasty grease and goop i go with the castrol superclean.. spray it on, scrub a bit with a stiff brush.. spay some more on, let it sit a bit, then spray a bit more on and hit it with the hose.

cake the motor in taco bell ground beef it makes an excellent non caustic degreaser. you can use the taco shells to patch any rust holes, or it will give your engine diarrhea.

Hondabrite works really well to get grease and oil off, probably wouldn't do much for the mud and it is expensive.

@bipolar and proud: 409 did that? Nice! I gotta give it a try.
