baby needs new shoes

Tomorow I pick up the settlement check from my lawyer and my '92 4Runner needs new tires. I'm thinking about BFG All Terrain TAs. I currently have 31X10.50s, should I stick with this size or can I go a little bigger without a lift? I do some off roading but nothing too serious, Carnage is out for me right now. I also need a good tire for mud and snow as I do live in Colorado and where I hunt it can get a little hairy in the winter.

Stick with the 31's, unless you plan on regearing. One of the guys I work with uses the BFG All Terrains on his hunting rig, and they work great. If you really want a good mud/snow tire, get a set of goodyear MTR's. I've heard nothing but good from them.

I slapped BFG AT TA KO's on my T100 last year, and was surprised what I pulled through in terms of mud, etc when I took it wheeling in NC. Amazing. The main reason I got em was they were cheaper than Bridgestones.

Cooper st-c's makes a great AT. A little more aggresive than the BFG, but looks a lot better in my opinion. Great in the mud.

bfg's suck in mud, i bought the cooper S/T and they stomp the bfg's in mud, and from what i've heard thier just as good if not better in snow. and about 2/3 the cost of the bfg a/t. i had the bfg a/t in a 31" on my last yota, they are good wearing, but sad in the mud. the cooper st-c is a harder compound, so not as good in snow.

I ran nothing but BFG muds and at's for the first 10 years and 175K miles on my '94 4Runner. I had the 4.56 gears stock so the 32's were the perfect size with a small 2" lift and heavier torsion bars.
Without the 4.56's ( or 4.88's that came on the autos) that came with the oversize tire package, I would stay with the 31's.
If you get the mt's, have them siped-- makes a huge difference on packed snow and ice (think driving up to ski on Colorado highways)
But for the money, you can't beat a BFG for toughness and traction AND good wear tendencies.
I also had good luck with my last set when I ran 4 oz of equal in each tire-- they wore perfectly and are immune to imbalance due to tire rotation on the rim which throws a statically balanced tire into a crazy wear nighmare. If you air down without bead locks, the tire will rotate on the rim and throw the tire out of balance-- worse than if you had just had the tires mounted and not balanced at all.

also, as a plus the 32" spare still fits under the rig where the original spare goes-- I just had to bend the alignment bracket slightly by hand and it goes up perfectly with the stock winch--It got close to the exhaust but I had no issues as a result.
