anybody else??

does anybody else regret buying their Toyota(s)....i regret buying both my '80 and dads '86...ever since we got them...its been nothing but problems...i've had my '80 for about a year and 1 month...and out of those 13 months...i've got to drive it MAYBE 4...because of the problems we've had with it...my dads '86..had it about 1 or 2 months...and now its only running on 3cylinders at idle...until about 2000 rpms...has a water leak...overheats constantly...needs new passenger side CV...and supposedly the motor has been rebuilt about 35,000 miles ago...and when its running fine...it feels like its been rebuilt...but any other time...it runs like a 300,000 mile motor..my '80 needs a manual choke...passenger side seat bolted in..and seatbelts...and a Front Driveshaft...it just seems like...as soon as we get one problem fixed...something else rears its ugly face...i now wish i would've have gotten the '85 chevy longbed...it had a 6in lift...35x13.50 bfg's...dual exhaust...rebuilt motor...edlebrock carb...highrise intake manifold...headers...all it needed was new tires..and thats it...all that for $3000...prob couldve talked him down to $2500...but o well...but instead i opted for the "better gas mileage" of the '80 yota..and it gets like...16....MAYBE and that '85 chevy (305 V8 5spd manual) got close to that...(idk how..but it did)....thinkin about sellin my '80...and gettin a chevy...but i probably wont..because im wayyyyyyyyy to attached to my toyota...but i never here of a rebuilt motor having as many problems as these rebuilt toyotas do. I guess i just had a little moment there...i just dont feel these two yota's are what me and my dad are looking for...mainly because we need a RELIABLE vehicle...o well...i guess we'll deal with what we got...hopefully somebody can say some good stuff to make me want my toyota even more than i already do

i feel ya, my 95 Grand Cherokee is great, runs like a champ with 215k on it, never left me stranded, always started, great offroad, my 4runner has been a money pit since day 1, its slow, but i love it, slowly its getting more reliable with each fix/mod, my 79...well that is still awaiting parts...thats the huge money pit, but that one, i will NEVER part with, just too awesome, so basic its ridiculous, just a bare bones, straight up TRUCK

I'm just biased towards Toyota's, fun to drive, fairly cheap for parts, easy to work on. I do like my jeep but idk, it just doesn't have that "toyota" feeling...(cue "Oh what a feeling" commercial). My friends think i'm crazy for my yota obsession but...maybe you have to be a little crazy to dig these things

so true man, thats why i let most of the problems my truck has not get to me, (rusted tranny lines, then weeks later rusted brake lines, then a couple weeks later rusted fuel lines etc. To the OP: dude your truck is 28 years old man! and ur dads is what like 22? Think about all the owners that the trucks have probably have and how much crap they have probably gone through in those 22+ years. Thats a long time theres no telling where they have been. Any truck/car is going to have problems after 20 years from wear and tear man, consider youself lucky some people have the same problems ur having with a car thats 3-4 years old not 28 lol..

It sounds like to me some one rebuilt your trucks, and didn't know what they were doing, or they could have been bull shating you

oh yeah don't forget your truck is 27 years old, it needs some good ol tlc... just like mine, it's 26 years old and it's in the garage waiting to rebuild the front end, but then again i have been driving around with 35's and now 33 boggers in front wheel drive since i bought the truck in november... but get the truck going right and it will last longer than any chevy, and how many older yotas you see everyday riding around?

You can not use "regret" and "Toyota" in the same sentence on Yotatech.

I wish my grandfather never sold his truck. If i knew then what i know now i would have bought it in a beat. 1983 standerd cab 22r (i think) bought it new in 83. It had 96XXX miles on it. Only down side it had a wooden bed on it.

Your Toyota is not the problem. The 20 plus years those vehicles have seen may not have been good. If you owned it since new or at least a few years I think you could complain. The fact is they are old and you don't know their true history. Start with the basics and give it some TLC. You would be surprised what that will do. Then again you may have just bought the only pieces of crap ever made......

Yeah...If it was rebuilt and not done right...u would have these problems... my 93 has 255k and is just now starting to have problems, and those were some rough 255k(see avatar), When trucks get old, they have problems, fix them right with oem toyota parts, and it will be 1 problem at a time that you wont have to worry about later!
