i call it a truck or SUV, Mainly because of two things, Body on Frame and Soild Rear Axle.

I call it a truck, because my truck has many parts harvested from a 4Runner. They are almost exactly the same as a short bed pickup, parts wise, the early ones.

I don't call any other SUVs trucks, though. I can't make that leap.

when i had my 4runner i always called it "the 4runner"

also worth nothing, on my 92 isuzu rodeo, my plates said "TRUCK" but not on my 3rd gen 4runner or my dads 4th gen. my moms 2001 suburban says "TRUCK" as well on the plates, as does my Tacoma (duh)

Either reference should be considered correct depending on the context. If you refer to any passenger vehicle as a "car," then it's a car. It is not technically a pickup, but it does have the utility of a truck, so you can call it a "truck" too. It's also an SUV or utility wagon. I'd just call it the "shaggin' wagon" and tell them to get off your back!

x3 on the truck...since it has a truck chassis. Also, my GF refers to it as a truck and she is always right! LOL...

x4 on calling it a truck. To me calling it the "suv" just doesn't flow right but I'll call it the "4runner" from time to time.
My last two cars I always called by there model "the corolla or the camry".

Hmmm... sometimes I call it a truck. other times a call it a Rig. usually call it a 4Runner. it's also been called the other woman, because when I'm not with my wife, I'm usually messing with my 4Runner, Truck, Rig, or whatever you call it, or sitting in front of the computer checking out the latest crazy questions on YOTATECH....

Oh yeah, before the lift install we were calling it OPERATION: OLD MAN EMU and all of the extra pennies were being saved in the OPERATION: OLD MAN EMU fund.

Good question...

thats exactly the way i see it. you can really see it once you take of the rear bumper and side mouldings on 1st gen 4runners the tailgate is nearly identical except for the toyota logo and the licence plate on the 4runner.

I own a 87 4Runner and a 90 Ford Bronco, they are both trucks, but also a term that got lost in the whole SUV thing. They are or where call MPV's ( Multi-purpose Vehicles) or just utility vehicle. More so for the removable top crowd. The whole car / SUV thing came about becuase of the 'Yuppie' craze. But then again, that start a whole new arguement.

Just my two cents.......

An SUV in my eyes is a unibody constructed vehicle, IE heep grand cherokee. A truck is a body on frame, like the 4Runner.
