oh yeah the 454 is a sweet mill and you can't beat that low compression rumble...

 

yeah the crossover steering was 86 and up 4wd trucks and runners so if you go with an earlier truck, you will want to put the steering box from those trucks on.
does anyone know if pre 86 2wd's have a workable steering box for crossover?

 

I dont get it. According to http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/enginespecs.html the 1985 454 in stock form pushes 230hp and 360lbs torque. Respectable, but numbers that can be beat by almost any toyota engine 3 liters and over (excluding the 3vzfe) with induction and a little work. Sure the yota engines cost more but they last longer and get better MPG and make the power without the weight of a 454.

To your credit though I once owned a 94 burban 3/4 ton with a 454 tonawanda and that thing could move! I felt like I could crush through anything and the motor could tug a house. Although the 12 mpg highway kinda sucked. Great for the snow though

 

yeah the one i have i think is a 78 and it's got a holley carb and custom dual exhaust, its also pushing a half ton 2wd single cab gmc pickup that thing HAULS ASS

 

As long as you don't get any Toyota newer then '85, else it's illegal at best.

depends on what state your in. i could have a 454 in my toyota here in washington no problem but in utah you had to have the stock motor.

IMO, putting a chevy/ford/dodge/etc motor in a yota negates most of the reason we buy yotas in the first place. But putting a yota body on a chevy frame is just.....weird.....

Whats the point of putting a yota BODY on a chevy chassis?....why not just keep a chevy body on a chevy chassis? There is no gain from putting a yota body on a chevy frame...in fact, you lose space ....

 

A 427 would be even better then the 454 in my opinion

 

I would use the 3/4 axles too. Custom crossover steering with hydro assist. Sounds like fun to me. Go 454!

Toylocost - My father in law would say the best thing you could do to a Ford, is put a Chevy in it. He has a '29 A with a 383 in it.
