4 wheel drive issues

I have a 94 4runner and when i put it into 4 wheel drive there is popping sounds and it lerchs forward when you try to drive it almost feels like some sort of drive shaft or.. well not sure. would cv effect the four wheel in this manner? i first bought the truck i replaced the hubs as they were trashed and that did not solve the problem what would the next thing to look at be? I am new to toyota and love the truck but i would like to get this fixed i might as well have a 2 wheel drive at this point. I would greatly appreciate the feed back on this.

Put the front end up on jack stands (tires off the ground), lock the front hubs (if manuals) and then spin each tire and look/listen for anything binding; CV shafts and the front drive shaft.
